New Digital Humanities Project: Yunnan Human Geography Through GIS Perspective
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Digital Humanities Project – “Mapping History: Yunnan Human Geography Through GIS Perspective“, one of the two projects supported by the Digital Humanities Seed Funding scheme in the Fall semester of 2024.
The Digital Humanities Seed Funding received by this project was utilized for students recruitment. The two recruited students (LIN Hongcheng, Candace from BEng in Electronic Engineering and WANG Yi Tina from BSc in Global China Studies) actively participated in the project during the fall semester of 2024.
Led by Prof. Jianxiong Ma, this project aims to present the settlement patterns of the Han Chinese and indigenous ethnic minorities, as well as the migration history since the 15th century. The project team focus on the human settlement patterns around the Bazi Basin in the Yunnan and Guizhou Plateau, viewing this as a historical formation process influenced by the relocation of military garrisons and community organization reforms due to changes in national taxation policies.
