In May 1980 the People’s Daily published these photos (without crediting Sha Fei) and an article "Where are you, the Japanese girls?" Mihoko who lived in Miyazaki in Kyushu was soon found. She visited Gen. Nie in Beijing in July.
1980年5月,《人民日報》 發表姚遠芳文章《日本小姑娘你在哪裡?》及這組照片(未署名「沙飛」),中、日兩國掀起尋找日本小姑姐的熱潮。美穗子很快就被找到。7月10日,她及丈夫、3個女兒 到北京,面謝聶榮臻元帥。
